Spirit - Gusev Crater

Spirit, a robotic explorer, landed in Gusev Crater on January 3, 2004. Gusev Crater may be an ancient lakebed, although there is no liquid water present there now. At left is an artist's impression of the rover.

Below are images of Gusev Crater. At left is a MOLA image showing where in the crater Spirit landed. The elevations are shown on the key below. At right is a Viking 1 image of Gusev crater with the landing ellipse marked. If you click on the Viking image, you will be taken to a larger version.
